Warming Hut

The Forks, Winnipeg

Our entry for Winnipeg’s annual Warming Hut competition is a combination of the canvas tent and the wood lean-to run through a biomorphic filter.  Loosely based on the profile of the Great Plains bison, the sloped and curved wood “roof” creates two ways to inhabit the structure: take shelter in the fun-fur-lined cave or scale the inclined plane to a rooftop perch for an expansive view of the frozen Red River.
