This apartment combination / gut renovation project in a typical Manhattan prewar building is the collaborative effort of Joe Serrins Studio and the fabulous couple who own the space. Designed with entertaining in mind, the spaces were stripped to their bare (and sometimes rickety) bones, and reconfigured into flexible open space with a separate bedroom wing. A pair of oversized walnut pocket doors slide inside an Yves Klein blue wall, allowing the dining area and living area to combine or separate as desired. The owners, who are both renowned artists in their respective mediums of photography and book arts, encouraged us to use bold colors and textures to act as a background to their eclectic mix of family heirloom furnishings, vintage finds, contemporary artworks, and books. The space is genuinely light-hearted and charming with a relaxed attitude that reflects the clients who call it home.
