Commissioned by a Fortune 500 entrepreneur for his wife and three daughters, the 5000sf duplex Santa Maria Residence is situated on the 41st floor overlooking Biscayne Bay and downtown Miami. A composition of disparate materials drives the interior architecture: Turkish marble, silk wallcoverings, walnut cabinetry, grey ash wall veneers, crisp white paint. The open plan reinforces the expansive 270 degree views, allowing the spaces to flow from one room to the next with pockets of more intimate, private spaces in between. The focal point of the double height living area is the custom waterjet cut stainless stair stringer with hand-painted glass treads. The stair treads mimic the ocean coming to shore, fading from midnight blue at the top to almost clear turquoise at the bottom.
The furnishings combine twentieth century vintage pieces by Robsjohns Gibbings, Tuttle, and Halston; 1940's pieces by Italian architects such as Ponti, Boffa, and DiCarli; and custom pieces from our Studio. JSS also curated the artwork which adds to the lively conversation between the eclectic mix of materials and objects throughout the space.
