This unique commission for the design of a custom private coach was proposed by a visionary client looking for style and comfort on the road. Working closely with Marathon Coach, and taking cues from yacht architecture, our Studio developed a sophisticated palette and a series of simple forms to carve out spaces within the narrow metal shell. Upon entry, the cockpit is covered in hand-formed ochre leather. It is made separated from the main cabin by a pocket door with electric privacy glass. The main salon is composed of an electric blue suede banquette set against walnut paneling with a pair of metallic silver leather reclining chairs opposite. Hidden storage and drop down tables transform the salon into an area for meetings and dining, and a compact kitchen is disguised as a Corian bar and serving area. Two seamless white Corian bathrooms and a pair of guest sleeping pods sit in the center of the coach. In the rear master bedroom, a white leather mechanical sofa rolls flat to become a queen-sized bed, and the adjacent walnut writing desk stores a full IT service for the passenger.
The coach interior is both relaxed and glamorous while remaining focused on function and comfort during travel.
The coach's exterior is decidedly understated, employing a palette of basic black and white autopaint above a polished chrome base. Simply marked "private coach" below the drivers window, the owner is afforded total privacy and anonymity on the road.
